The opportunityDo you possess exceptional technical skills and a passion for electronics and computing? If so, then this role offers a unique opportunity to combine your hands-on expertise with meaningful teaching and mentoring at the Creative Computing Institute.As a Specialist Technician - Electronics, you will take responsibility for managing and maintaining our Physical Computing Lab, ensuring it is safe, well-stocked, and continuously developing to meet the needs of students, staff and researchers.Beyond the technical side of your role, you will also deliver weekly technical tutorials and one-to-one sessions with students, guiding them through the entire project cycle, from initial concepts through to final presentations. You will provide practical support and assistance with tasks such as prototyping, soldering, debugging, working with communication protocols and APIs, managing and versioning code, and setting up development environments.You will become an active part of a vibrant academic community where technicians are integral to student success, supporting research and teaching at the intersection of creativity and technology.Your profileYou will bring an in-depth knowledge of electronics, Micro-controllers, circuit design, network protocols and product prototyping, along with fluency in programming languages and tools, including C++, Python and Git.You will also have experience of managing an electronics workshop, writing risk assessments, and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) procedures.Equally important are your organisational and communication skills, along with the ability to build strong, positive relationships with students and colleagues, ensuring that the lab is both a safe and welcoming space for everyone.We are UALUniversity of the Arts London (UAL) generates and inspires the creativity the world needs for a better future.
