SCOPE OF WORK: TOSSWORKS INSTRUCTOR (1099 CONTRACTOR)

Location: On-site across Burke County and surrounding areas (school and studio-based programming)
Contract Type: 1099 Independent Contractor
Hourly Rate: $25-$28/hour (based on experience)

PROJECT SUMMARY

TOSS, a program of The Industrial Commons, seeks an experienced arts educator to serve as a TOSSworks Instructor. The contractor will deliver dynamic, inclusive, and interdisciplinary visual arts programming for K–8 students in public school settings, studio spaces, and public venues. The contractor will work part-time and on-site to implement and support the TOSSworks educational initiative.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Visual Arts Education or equivalent experience (minimum 3 years teaching visual art to K–8 students).
  • Strong classroom management and facilitation skills.
  • Bilingual (English + Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent lifting (5–50 lbs) for event setup, teardown, and supply transport.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout indoor and outdoor spaces for extended periods.
  • Travel within Burke County and nearby regions required.

The contractor acknowledges that they are not an employee of The Industrial Commons or TOSS and are not entitled to employee benefits. Contractor assumes all liability for withholding taxes, insurance, and other obligations. TIC reserves the right to terminate the agreement for non-performance or breach of contract terms.
