Responsibilities

II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE

Develops and implements a guidance program which assists the elementary student in his/her adjustment to the school environment and program. Devotes not less than two-thirds of each academic school year to the practice of school guidance counseling.

IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes schedules for seeing students individually or in group sessions.
  • Provides counseling services as necessary or on a referral basis from teachers, administrators, parents and students.
  • Assists parents, teachers, students, and the Supervisor of Child Welfare and Attendance in alleviating excessive absences.
  • Supervises the process and transfer of records and the maintenance of pupil cumulative records.
  • Refers parents and students to the proper resources for support services as necessary (e.g., SBLC, Mental Health, Health Clinic, school nurse, etc.
  • Coordinates career education development materials.
  • Participates in in-service training, faculty meetings, and parent-teacher organizations.
  • Confers with parents and/or teachers upon request.
  • Provides orientation for new students.
  • Counsels students who have been suspended and works toward avoiding recurrences.
  • Coordinates schedules for standardized tests.
  • Prepares testing materials for dissemination.
  • Instructs teachers in test administration.
  • Disseminates and provides interpretation of standardized test scores to parents, teachers, and students.
  • Participates in 504 and IEP meetings for students with special needs as needed.
  • Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork through the school system.
  • Performs other services as required.

          • Attend/work concessions/gates of no more than 15 athletic events per school year as requested by the principal or designee

          • Attend all meetings and functions of those activities, clubs, or groups of which the employee is a sponsor
