Position Summary Pennon Education seeks a passionate and motivated Summer Intern pursuing a degree in Elementary Education or Middle Level Science to assist with planning and facilitating its 2026 summer camp programs. This internship offers meaningful, hands-on experience working with children in educational settings, supporting inquiry-based STEM learning, digital creation activities, and engaging instructional experiences that reflect best teaching practices. Duration: June 1 – August 21, 2026 (Total: 120 hours) Schedule: Flexible hours between June and August aligned with camp schedule and organizational needs Location: Time mostly spent in Harrisburg with potential travel to Lancaster, PA Key Responsibilities Support planning and delivery of summer camp sessions focused on science, engineering, digital creation, and hands-on inquiry activities. Assist camp instructors in facilitating age-appropriate lessons for elementary and middle school age campers. Supervise and engage with campers in both whole-group and small-group settings. Prepare instructional materials, classroom spaces, and activity setups. Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment. Collaborate with the education team to reflect on instructional strategies and camper engagement. Support logistics related to camp operations (materials distribution, camper transitions, and follow-up activities). Learning Outcomes for Intern *If approved by the supporting teacher education program, Pennon Education can issue a certificate for completion of required fieldwork hours. All education interns work alongside PA certified teachers and under the supervision of a PA certified school administrator. Deepen understanding of inquiry-based and STEM-integrated educational practices. Gain experience facilitating hands-on learning and small group instruction. Develop professional skills in educational planning, classroom management, and youth engagement. Observe and practice effective teaching strategies with guidance from experienced educators. Requirements Qualifications Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s program in Elementary Education or Middle Level Science. Enthusiasm for working with children and youth. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable facilitating activities in STEM and creative learning environments. Ability to work collaboratively with a small team. Background clearances (as required) and commitment to child safety. Preferred Skills Previous experience in instructional support, tutoring, or youth programs. Familiarity with basic science concepts and hands-on learning activities.
