JOB SUMMARY:

The primary role of an Elementary teacher is to contribute to the educational development of the students by setting reasonable performance expectations and instilling in their students a desire to learn. By doing so, the teacher will provide adequate resource materials, information and experiences which will stimulate learning and development. Teachers must also be role models for students by setting good examples and providing students with the same respect and trust that is expected of themselves. Teachers are responsible for promoting learning, upgrading themselves professionally and participating in the activities and governance of the school.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Desired Education, Knowledge and Experience:
    o Bachelor’s Degree in Education (B.Ed.) or a related field.
    o Training or coursework related to Indigenous Education and Cultural Competency is an asset.

o Knowledge of the latest education pedagogue and the 20th century learning and teaching methodology and tools.

  • Personal Attributes:

o Demonstrates reliability, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential matters
o Ability to build trust and rapport with students, and maintain effective working relationships.
o Ability to work collaboratively as an active team member.
o Ability to effectively manage time, tasks, and conflicting priorities with strong organizational and multitasking skills.
o Ability to effectively analyze information, manage conflict, and respond to risk situations.

o Possesses strong data entry and documentation skills

  • General Employment Requirements:

o Valid Driver’s License, and reliable transportation.
o Valid Interim Professional Certificate (IPC) or a Permanent Professional Certificate (PPC).
o Criminal Record Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver instruction with an understanding of the Tsuut’ina community’s political, cultural, and social context.
  • Adhere to goals and plans set by the Chief and Council, Education Board of Trustees, and Education Director.
  • Regularly engage with students and parents through home visits, interviews, and meetings to ensure student success.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, professional development days, and workshops.
  • Follow policies for reporting absences and notify the Principal by 8:00 a.m. if absent.
  • Teach approved courses and programs as authorized by the Chief and Council.
  • Ensure students have online access to classes and materials.
  • Regularly assess and report student progress to students, parents, and the Principal.
  • Provide ongoing help and tutoring to students.
  • Engage in activities that support school and student success, such as tutorials and fundraising.
  • Submit monthly progress reports and maintain all required documentation, including lesson plans, long-range plans, emergency plans, and community hours.
  • Keep backups of student files, marks, and attendance.
  • Perform other tasks related to school and student success as assigned by the Principal.
