We are seeking a highly skilled and TSSA-certified Elevating Devices Mechanic (EDM-D) to join our expert team. This specialized role will focus on the precision installation of custom elevator interiors, ensuring every detail meets our exacting standards for aesthetic perfection, structural integrity, and strict adherence to safety codes. If you possess a refined mastery of working with luxury materials and complex forms within the unique environment of elevator cabs, we invite you to contribute to iconic installations displayed in high-profile environments.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, operating within our state-of-the-art facility in Toronto and on project sites across various locations.
Job Overview
The EDM-D Mechanic will be responsible for the accurate and safe installation of bespoke architectural finishes and components within elevator cabs. You will work closely with our design, engineering, and fabrication teams, ensuring that all interior elements are integrated seamlessly and in full compliance with the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators, as adopted by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) in Ontario. This role demands a meticulous approach, a deep technical understanding of elevator cab construction, and the ability to execute installations with unwavering precision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute the precision installation of custom elevator interior components, including wall panels (in various luxury materials such as metals, glass, wood, stone), ceilings, flooring, handrails, lighting, and specialized fixtures, ensuring adherence to design specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Work strictly in accordance with the CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators and all TSSA regulations pertaining to elevator alterations and cab renovations, ensuring all installations maintain elevator safety, weight balance, and fire ratings.
  • Interpret and understand complex architectural and shop drawings, identifying potential installation challenges and proactively collaborating with designers and engineers to find solutions.
  • Perform necessary measurements, alignments, and adjustments during installation to achieve flawless finishes and fit-up.
  • Ensure all installed components are securely fastened, properly aligned, and do not compromise the operational integrity or safety features of the elevator system.
  • Conduct pre-installation inspections of elevator cabs and materials, and post-installation quality checks to guarantee the highest standards of craftsmanship and compliance.
  • Collaborate effectively with project managers, other trades, and building personnel, maintaining clear communication regarding project progress, timelines, and site requirements.
  • Adhere to all company and site-specific health and safety protocols, including the safe handling of materials, tools, and equipment within live construction or operational environments.
  • Maintain an impeccably clean and organized workspace, ensuring proper care and maintenance of tools and equipment.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Valid Elevating Devices Mechanic Class D (EDM-D) certification issued by the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) in Ontario is mandatory.
  • Proven hands-on experience in the installation or renovation of elevator interiors, demonstrating expertise in working with high-end materials and executing complex architectural finishes.
  • Thorough knowledge and practical application of the CSA B44 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators and relevant TSSA regulations.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, and technical specifications for custom fabrication.
  • Strong understanding of material properties and fastening methods for various substrates (e.g., stainless steel, bronze, glass, wood, stone) within the context of elevator cab construction.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, precision, and a commitment to achieving visually perfect and structurally sound installations.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to on-site conditions and unexpected challenges.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team and effectively interact with clients and other professionals.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all safety procedures.
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the role, including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with luxury architectural fabrication or artistic sculpture installation is a significant asset.
  • Additional elevating devices mechanic certifications (e.g., EDM-A) would be considered an advantage.

If you are a TSSA-certified EDM-D Mechanic with a passion for precision, a commitment to safety, and the skill to bring world-class architectural and artistic visions to life within elevator environments, we encourage you to apply.
