Description

About the job

For our client, we are looking for an Embedded Software Engineer to join a well-funded aviation company developing next-generation heavy-duty UAV systems.

The company is building production-ready, software-driven aircraft for real-world applications, with logistics as the initial focus and additional use cases planned as the platform develops.

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will design, develop, integrate and test embedded software across avionics and onboard systems. You will take ownership of functionality from initial design through system integration, verification and flight-ready deployment.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on product development, production readiness and reliable real-world operation.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, integrate and test embedded software in C/C++
  • Develop software for real-time and resource-constrained systems
  • Work with RTOS and/or bare-metal environments
  • Develop and maintain low-level software and device drivers
  • Implement and integrate embedded communication interfaces, including CAN, UART, SPI, I2C and Ethernet
  • Integrate model-based generated code into the embedded software framework
  • Define and manage software interfaces across avionics, flight control, payloads and other onboard systems
  • Perform system-level integration and verification using SIL and HiL
  • Support embedded CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, testing and verification
  • Debug and troubleshoot software across hardware and system boundaries
  • Develop and maintain bootloaders and firmware update mechanisms
  • Support external communication links including RF, satellite and LTE
  • Collaborate closely with hardware, systems and other engineering teams to solve complex system-level challenges

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Embedded Systems, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Strong hands-on experience in Embedded C/C++ development
  • Experience with RTOS and/or bare-metal systems
  • Experience developing device drivers and low-level embedded software
  • Practical experience with embedded communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN and Ethernet
  • Experience with embedded software integration and system-level testing
  • Experience with SIL and/or HiL testing
  • Experience with CI/CD practices for embedded software, including automated builds, testing, debugging and version control
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges
  • Independent, proactive and technically curious working style
  • Fluent English and strong communication skills

We welcome candidates from UAV, aerospace, defence, air mobility or automotive backgrounds, particularly those with experience in complex, production-grade or safety-critical embedded systems. Experience with aviation standards and certification processes such as DO-178C, ARP4754A or ARP4761 is considered a plus.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to join a well-funded aviation company at an important stage of its growth, focused on bringing advanced UAV technology into production and real-world operation.

The company is building aviation products with software at the core, combining expertise across aerospace, air mobility and automotive engineering.

You will work on complex multidisciplinary systems, take significant technical ownership and contribute directly to the development of production-ready aircraft.

The role offers the opportunity to see your work progress from embedded software development and system integration through to testing and real-world flight operations.
