A few-hundred-euro drone can shut down an airport, spot for artillery, or carry a warhead. The answer, so far, is radar fleets designed for aircraft-sized targets and procurement cycles measured in decades. The gap between those two facts is where people get hurt.
Phinorm closes that gap with software. Phinorm Featherlight is a physics-informed signal processing layer that lets existing radars detect small drones they currently miss. No new hardware, no fleet replacement: the radar a customer already owns becomes better at the threat that matters most right now. We have proven this in field tests against standard processing baselines, and we license the technology to radar manufacturers across NATO and allied markets.
If you want your engineering to decide whether an air-defense operator sees a drone in time, this is that job.
The role
The next step for Phinorm Featherlight is running in real time on client radars You will own the embedded implementation: porting the existing Python-based processing chain onto radar SoCs, holding hard latency, power and memory budgets, and building the test infrastructure that proves on-target behavior matches what we validated in the field.
You will work directly with our CTO and the algorithm team, and you will help shape how the first engineering team at Phinorm works. Expect to argue about what survives fixed-point conversion.
What you'll do
- Implement and optimize the signal chain in C/C++ on embedded radar under SWaP constraints- Design the real-time firmware architecture- Board bring-up, drivers, and the data path from ADC to output- Build capture/replay and hardware-in-the-loop rigs around real field data- Join field tests and integration work with clients
What we need
-Relevant advanced academic degree(s)- Strong embedded C/C++ on resource-constrained SoCs, with RTOS experience- Working DSP fundamentals- Comfort at the bench & tinkering- Eligibility to work with export-controlled technical data-Ability and comfort working in high-risk high-reward a startup environment with high self-direction
Good to have
-PhD in a relevant field- Experience with commercial mmWave radar SoCs and their SDKs- FMCW radar signal-chain knowledge- Prior defense, aerospace, or safety-critical firmware work- Existing German, EU or US work authorization-Chip or FPGA design experience
