JOB SUMMARY

Works with aspects of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment and other programs of assisted reproduction. This includes working with human or animal gametes, i.e., sperm, eggs, and embryos. Duties include oocyte retrieval, semen preparations, fertilization, monitoring of embryo development, and cryopreservation, and micromanipulation procedures for ICSI, assisted hatching, and embryo biopsy for pre-implantation genetic diagnosis.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS*

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological or related sciences.
  • Minimum of 1 year (within the last 5 years) of experience working in an assistive reproductive technologies laboratory.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s policy and procedures.

  • Evidence of participation in quality and data management is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires infrequent standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.
Responsibilities
  • Diagnostic semen analysis and sperm preparations for IUI and of, surgically retrieved sperm
  • OR procedures including retrievals and embryo transfer: Identification, isolation, preparation, and culture of gametes for IVF, cryopreservation, and thawing
  • Chart review for patient cycles, and entering statistics for each cycling patient
  • Embryo discard/storage, including paperwork and follow-up
  • Demonstrate proficiency in various laboratory services and procedures e.g., Semen analysis, Sperm preparation and insemination of oocytes, Fertilization assessment, Embryo freezing, storage, and thawing, etc.
  • Assist the Technical supervisor/ Laboratory Director with laboratory quality assurance and quality control programs to ensure they satisfy lab requirements and meet industry standards as established by qualified outside agencies.
  • Identify and anticipate safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions; rendering opinions on new equipment and procedures; and recommending preventative programs as needed.
  • Participates as required in appropriate proficiency testing programs to monitor laboratory practice outcomes and to measure on a regular basis that such outcomes meet or exceed industry and practice standards.
  • Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques; and participating in alarm calls as assigned by the Technical Supervisor or the laboratory director.
  • Assist in maintaining supply inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, and placing and expediting orders for supplies.
