JOB SUMMARY

As a key nursing leader, the Director of the Emergency Department is responsible for the strategic planning, operational management, and clinical excellence of the Emergency Department (ED). This individual provides decisive leadership and direction to all ED personnel to ensure the delivery of high-quality, safe, and efficient patient-centered care. The Director has 24-hour accountability for all departmental functions, including patient care outcomes, fiscal management, staff development, and quality improvement. This leader is responsible for fostering a collaborative, professional, and resilient environment that meets the dynamic needs of the community and aligns with the hospital’s mission, goals, and philosophy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN) is required.
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive nursing leadership experience in an Emergency Department or Critical Care setting.
  • Licensure & Certifications:
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New Jersey.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN).
  • National certification in nursing leadership (e.g., NE-BC) is preferred.
