Description PURPOSE STATEMENT Under close supervision, provides technical support for physicians and nurses in the Emergency Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform phlebotomy. Perform 12 lead EKGs. Transport patients to other departments. Place patients on cardiac and vital sign monitor. Perform Point of Care Testing. Obtain lab specimens and documents all care/procedures provided. Clean equipment and workspace Order/stock department supplies Clerical unit tasks as required/requested Demonstrate positive customer service relations Routinely participates in QI projects and encourages department to continuously improve. Assist co-workers as needed/requested Support the Medical Center’s Mission/Vision/Philosophy positively Maintain regular and predictable attendance Perform other essential duties as assigned Requirements EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS High school diploma or equivalent Currently licensed as a certified nursing assistant or emergency medical technician in the state of Missouri. Minimum of six (6) months direct patient care experience required. This individual should be knowledgeable regarding growth and development and assessing the physical and psychological needs of patients in the following stages of life: neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescents, adults, and geriatric. Current BLS required. Must be self-motivated and have the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the hospital/clinic. PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to sit and stand, intermittent 8 to 10 hours a day. Must be able to use standard office equipment, including the telephone and computer keyboard. Continuously works under pressure of near 100% accuracy while meeting inflexible deadlines. Continuously utilizes manual/bi-manual dexterity, near vision, speech, and hearing. Frequently stands, walks, sits and utilizes eye/hand coordination and color definition. Occasionally reaches above shoulder, regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 35 lbs. Occasionally walks on uneven surfaces.
Responsibilities
The Emergency Department Technician provides technical support for physicians and nurses, performing tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and patient transport. They also maintain equipment, stock supplies, and participate in quality improvement projects.
