EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in emergency management or closely related discipline AND five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Emergency Management field; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Demonstrated understanding of local, state and federal laws and regulations regarding emergency services, disaster response, recovery and mitigation is required. Extensive knowledge of planning, development, implementation and assessment of emergency management programs and response strategies relative to both natural and manmade disasters is also required.

  • Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver’s License required.
  • ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 300, ICS 700, and ICS 800
  • CPR Certification.
  • All-Hazards Planning Section Chief within 1 year.
  • Radiological Response Core Concepts within 1 year.
  • North Carolina Division of Emergency Management Associate Emergency Manager or International Association of Emergency Managers Certified Emergency Manager Certification required within 2 years.
  • North Carolina First Responder certification within 2 years.

Experience may substitute for education; however, education may not substitute for experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including various firefighting and emergency response equipment, audio-visual equipment, and common office equipment, etc. Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or an amount of force to move objects. Must be physically able to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, crawl and climb. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. The job is rated as Light to Moderate Work.
