  POSITION DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS The Woodbridge Department of Emergency Services is seeking to hire qualified individuals for the position of Emergency Medical Technician(s). Excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge of principles of emergency medical and first aid treatment are a must. Must possess the ability to remain calm in emergency situations, able to establish rapport with the patient, drive an ambulance with caution, and able to determine the nature and extent of injury to provide emergency medical treatment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Answering all calls for emergency medical treatment, driving the ambulance to required locations, parking ambulance in a safe location, and creating a safe traffic environment by placement of road flares, removal of debris, and redirection of traffic. * Determining the nature and extent of injury and establish priorities for emergency care. * Administer emergency care such as opening and maintaining an airway, providing artificial ventilation, and cardio-pulmonary-resuscitation. * Stop bleeding by bandaging or tourniquet, treat shock, immobilize fractures, and provide initial care of poisoned and burn patients. * Search for medical identification emblem as a clue for providing emergency care. * Extricate patients from entrapment. * Radio the dispatcher for additional help if needed * Prepare victims for transportation in an ambulance. * Report to the dispatcher the nature and extent of injuries to ensure prompt medical care on arrival. * May request advice from hospital physician or emergency department. * May deliver newborn infants. * On arrival, transfer patient to stretcher, carry or wheel into hospital, and provide nurse or doctor evaluation of the patient's condition. * Prepare reports of trips made and enter data into electronic patient care reports. Applicants are required to possess a current and valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification issued by the New Jersey Department of Health and possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
