Management Prefers: Supervisory and/or Leadership Skills Demonstrated experience interacting, deescalating, and communicating with staff, vendors, and the public over the telephone, radio, and in person, often in stressful situations, tactfully, courteously, and effectively. Current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Knowledge of the Incident Command Structure and the ability to function as Incident Commander until relieved. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Perform all the duties of First Shift Emergency Operations/EMTs Coordinates and supervises first shift Emergency Operations/EMT’s, which are critical front-line employees with job functions that span emergency management, medical response, guest services, traffic control, communications, and employee safety. Administrative duties, including preparing and completing reports as required. Manage and supervise 1st shift Emergency Operations Staff/EMT’s Ensure the safety and security of guests, staff, habitats, animal population, plant collections, and work areas. Position/Physical Requirements: 8:00am to 6:00pm, with a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays Achieve and maintain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification within one year of employment. Considered “Essential/Mandatory Staff” required to work during adverse weather and zoo emergencies. Must meet DNCR Fleet Safety Guidelines and have ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment. Must have the physical ability to sit, bend, reach, stand, walk, lift and carry 30 lbs. (and up to 50 lbs. occasionally), endure extended outdoor conditions year-round, negotiate uneven terrain on foot, hear and respond to radio communication, and drive motor vehicles. Participation in the Zoo's occupational health program due to contact with human pathogens and animal containment areas. Work independently without direct supervision. React calmly and effectively during emergency situations. Employ a systematic and logical approach to enforce park regulations tactfully and courteously. Use proper radio procedures and maintain good phone etiquette. Possess basic computer skills, including PC operation, word processing, and data entry.
