Description Brattleboro Memorial Hospital / Southern Vermont Health Services Corporation Job Description Job Title: Emergency Technician Job Code: 290 Hours: 7 am to 7:30 pm, 36 hours a week FTE: .9 (36 hours/week) Weekend Schedule: Every other Holiday Schedule: Every other Call Schedule: N/A FLSA Status: Non-exempt Department Name: Emergency Department Department Code: 6780 Location: Brattleboro, Vermont JOB SUMMARY: The Emergency Department Technician functions under the direction of the Registered Nurse. The ED Tech is responsible for implementing appropriate aspects of the plan of care and maintaining a safe environment for rendering effective patient care. Duties will include obtaining and documenting a full set of vital signs, assisting with intra hospital transportation needs, collecting urine, culture, blood, sputum, and stool specimens, answering call lights, performing EKGs and ensuring transmission of results to E.H.R., assisting with organizing supplies, restocking rooms, cleaning and changing linen on stretchers, splinting of extremities, assisting during a code blue, cleaning and dressing minor wounds, applying ice to affected areas, answering phone calls, paging consultants, assisting with the transfer process, and performing the Quick Registration and The ED Tech may perform other duties, as assigned by the RN and within their scope of practice. DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE: The Emergency Department is a Level III facility according to the guidelines of the Accreditation Manual for Hospitals. The 13-bed unit is open 24 hours a day with at least one physician on duty at all times and a roster of on-call physicians and specialists available within thirty minutes. Registered nurses staff the department. All nurses are ACLS certified. The patient population includes patients of all ages, and care provided ranges from definitive treatment of non-urgent, urgent and emergent medical and surgical conditions to stabilization and transport of the critically ill or injured. Birthing Center nursing staff are available for consultation or to assist in the care of neonates, infants and obstetrical patients. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High School Graduate. CPR certified Experience: 2 or more years of EMS experience preferred. EMT-I preferred with previous IV and phlebotomy skills. Licensure/Certification: Current Healthcare CPR Certification Post hire requirement: BMH IV certification. Mental Efforts: Requires eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to distinguish colors. Normal or corrected vision/hearing. Lifting and/or moving patients from one point to another. Requires ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities. Ability to work with patients, families and public experiencing stressful situations. Ability to read, write and distinguish letters, numbers and symbols. Ability to perform keyboarding functions.
