Description
The Emergency Department Assistant functions within his/her scope of practice under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse to assist in providing care and implementing delegated activities of the nursing plan. S/he demonstrates an understanding of basic nursing skills and utilizes specialized knowledge, skills and techniques in Emergency care to perform and assist in performance of patient care in the Emergency Department. S/he assumes delegated responsibilities which may include but are not limited to such tasks as: meeting the hygienic, elimination, comfort and safety needs of patients; obtains and records/reports vital signs, applies both metal and plaster splints, access and records on the patient's medical record, transports patients, specimens, etc., assists in physically lifting patient, restraining confused/combative patients, performs phlebotomy procedures and point of care testing.
