YOUR SKILLS & ABILITIES (REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • 8+ years engineering experience
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time, domestic
  • Expertise in laboratory Heavy Duty Engine Dyno Emissions, Fuel Economy and Greenhouse Gas test procedures.
  • Including the following:
  • Emission sampling and analytical measurement technology
  • Required calibration and diagnostic procedures
  • Test procedures and process requirements
  • Data requirements and calculation
  • Test Validation requirements
  • Expertise in the following laboratory regulatory Heavy Duty engine dyno test requirements including, but not limited to, the following:
  • US EPA 40 CFR Parts 86, 1065, 1036

WHAT WILL GIVE YOU A COMPETITIVE EDGE (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS)

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering or other Advanced Degree
  • Expertise in engineering design of Body Structures, Chassis Structure components or equivalent experience
  • Advanced knowledge of emissions certification and heavy duty engine dyno
  • Familiarity with Design For Six Sigma process
  • Experience with DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis)
  • Knowledge of Immersive Technologies and applications for continued use
Responsibilities

THE ROLE

The Technical Specialist (TS) is a recognized technical leader and resource in Engine Dyno Emission Testing. The position requires the ability to address the broadest and most complex problems in the vehicle structure domain. The TS will serve to expand the structure integration potential from requirement definition thru virtual and performance validation. The TS will communicate cross-functionally and globally for structure integration expertise.
The TS will lead and support multiple Advanced Technical Work (ATW) projects and proposals for new technology ideas to move towards a more integrated vehicle structure. This work will be used to re-define performance requirements, build business case studies, and technology roadmaps. The expectation is to focus on design integration and engineering simplification as we continue to develop our electrified product portfolio.

WHAT YOU’LL DO (RESPONSIBILITIES)

  • Availability to work in person Pontiac Engineering Center
  • Provide guidance to the engineering team for the instrumentation, equipment and software required for compliant testing
  • Provide guidance and support to laboratory operations and quality teams to relative to the processes and procedures required to ensure compliant testing
  • Validate compliance of the measurement instrumentation, diagnostics and calibrations
  • Validate compliance of the test procedure and data collected for each required test or test sequence
  • Validate compliance of the calculated results for each required test
  • Participate in Engine Manufacturers Association - Emission Measurements Testing Committee meeting (EMA-EMTC)
  • Review proposed rules and provide comments to GM Public Policy regarding any concerns related to proposed HD Engine Dyno Testing requirements
  • Provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development, and implementation of engineering solutions across all structural TS components
