Description
The House Supervisor is a nurse with substantial specialized knowledge, judgment and nursing skill who is able to administer nursing at Ephraim McDowell James B. Haggin Hospital (EMJBH) in the absence of the CNO and nursing directors. The House Supervisor also acts as the voice of administration, supervising all care given in the absence of the administrative team. He/she is responsible for the implementation of the vision, mission, philosophy and core values of the organization and of Ephraim McDowell Health Nursing within defined areas of responsibility as well as for establishing and fulfilling department-specific strategic and operational goals and objectives. Accountable directly the Chief Nursing Officer to maintain 24/7 leadership and supervision of designated departments so that safe, quality, cost-effective and comprehensive services are provided. Directs the nursing practice of professionals and support personnel in accordance with standards of practice as defined by the Kentucky Board of Nursing and in accordance with the Ephraim McDowell Health nursing professional practice model. Coordinates nursing care in a manner that promotes shared nursing leadership and collaboration with other disciplines to accomplish patient and family-centered care. Directs care of other facility departments in a comparable manner. Exhibits F.I.R.S.T values (Friendliness, Innovation, Respect, Service and Trust).   WORKING CONDITIONS, HAZARDS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works in a well-lighted, ventilated and air conditioned area. Schedule may consist of weekends, holidays and shift work. Often exposed to unpleasant odors, sights and sounds. Long periods of standing, walking, stooping heavy lifting and bending are required. Risks exposure to disease, infection and physical strain and assault. Risks exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, radiation and antineoplastic agents. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently.   CONTACTS WITH OTHERS: Patient, family members and significant others, physicians and Associates, other healthcare providers, community resource personnel and regulatory agencies, administrative staff and hospital support services.   Qualifications Minimal four (4) years of clinical expertise preferred. Certification in specialty preferred.
