ABOUT US

The Sheffield College is a further and higher education institution dedicated to providing academic, vocational, and professional qualifications to approximately 13,000 young people and adults annually. Our mission is to transform lives through learning, advocating for inclusivity and diversity at every stage.
About the role
Are you passionate about enabling young people with special educational needs to develop their skills, raise their aspirations, and move confidently towards their future careers? We are looking for a dedicated Employability Skills & Placement Officer to join our specialist SEN college on a fixed-term maternity cover basis until March 2026.
As an Employability Skills & Placement Officer, you will play a vital role in preparing students for life beyond college. This will include delivering engaging classes and workshops on employability skills, helping students build confidence, resilience, and independence. You will also source, coordinate, and monitor meaningful work placements that align with each student’s aspirations, strengths, and needs.
Working closely with students, curriculum staff, families, and employers, you will ensure our learners gain high-quality experiences that support progression into employment, apprenticeships, or further training. You will also be a champion for inclusive practice, ensuring that all opportunities are accessible and tailored to our students’ individual goals.

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a proactive and supportive individual who has:

  • Experience in employer engagement, work placements, teaching/training, or employability support.
  • A strong commitment to raising the aspirations and outcomes of young people with learning disabilities and/or difficulties.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • The ability to adapt teaching and support to meet a wide range of needs.
  • Knowledge of post-16 education, supported internships, and employment pathways.
  • A Level 3 or above qualification in a relevant field (desirable).
Responsibilities
  • Delivering lessons, workshops, and one-to-one sessions on employability skills and career readiness.
  • Organising and coordinating work placements, industry tasters, and employer visits.
  • Building strong relationships with local and regional employers to create sustainable opportunities.
  • Preparing students for interviews, applications, and workplace expectations.
  • Supporting students to overcome barriers and develop the confidence to achieve their aspirations.
  • Monitoring and evaluating placement progress, providing tailored feedback and support.
  • Ensuring all compliance, safeguarding, and health & safety requirements are met.
