POSITION SUMMARY

Two Temporary Full-time Appendix D Support Staff, replacement contract position (3 months)
The Employer Relations Consultant supports employer recruitment needs by promoting a wide range of college program capabilities, with an emphasis on co-op education offerings in a portfolio of 10-15 co-op programs, supporting over 200 student work terms per semester. The Consultant will build and maintain employer relationships, connecting them with various college services such as the Career Centre, Corporate Training, Continuing Education, Alumni and Applied Research. A key part of the role involves generating new business, developing co-op opportunities, and organizing employer events to enhance student access to the job market.
Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with three to four days on-site at the Waterloo campus located at 108 University Ave. E, and one to two days remote. Travel is required weekly to other campus locations, employer sites and events.

LABOUR MARKET RESEARCH AND EMPLOYER ENGAGEMENT

  • Conduct labour market and employer research to identify new business prospects and relevant professional associations that support the hiring of Conestoga students and graduates
  • Engage new and existing employers through cross-marketing of Conestoga’s programs, with a focus on meeting or exceeding departmental targets
  • Build relationships through face-to-face meetings and presentations with senior-level decision-makers (e.g., Human Resources directors, Plant Managers, Operations Directors, etc.)
  • Utilize social media, cold calling, and email outreach to generate employment opportunities and promote on-campus recruitment initiatives, including the Guided Career Management Co-op alternative
  • Target communications to employers to promote job development services and program offerings
  • Provide employers with insights into students’ technical capabilities to support workforce planning and job description development
  • Share information about co-op programs under development and assist employers in aligning these with their business needs
  • Apply advanced business development skills, including relationship management, problem-solving, negotiation, and closing, to secure student employment opportunities
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with employers, grounded in a strong understanding of students’ technical skills, available funding resources, and college-wide services
  • Monitor co-op work terms and proactively support the resolution of any issues that may arise to ensure a successful experience for both students and employers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three-year diploma or degree specific to the academic program being supported, or Business Administration, Marketing, Sales, Human Resources, Career Development, Social Services, or related field is required
  • Minimum five years of experience in sales, marketing, job development, public relations, or employment assistance is required; preferably in a post-secondary education environment
  • Strong persuasive communication and active listening skills
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; professional demeanour with strong diplomacy, discretion, negotiation and closing abilities
  • Proven track record of working in a target-based environment with meeting and exceeding departmental goals
  • Knowledge of the Canadian labour market, Conestoga College programs, employment trends, and prospect development techniques
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Public speaking experience and strong sales and marketing capabilities
  • Proficient in conducting online research
  • Customer relationship management and problem-solving skills
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to other campus locations, employer sites and events
