Open Door Group (ODG), a trailblazing non-profit organization serving communities across Canada, is looking for an Employment Specialist to join our team!   Salary: $30.20 to $31.89 per hour (Grid 31 of the Health Sciences Association Community Bargaining Agreement) Status: Full-Time, Permanent Hours of Work: 36 Hours per week Location: The primary work location for this position will be the Open Door Group office at 134 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, and will have secondary work locations of all Open Door Group sites in the Vancouver area as needed. Internal Posting closing date: October 5, 2025   As an Employment Specialist, you’ll support individuals in reaching their employment goals through career counselling, job search assistance, and skill development. You’ll work with both clients and employers to identify opportunities, address employment barriers, and promote inclusive hiring. Day-to-day, you’ll meet with clients to assess their strengths, set goals, and develop action plans. You’ll help them prepare for work by building resumes, practicing interviews, and developing job search strategies. You’ll also connect clients with additional information and support services based on their needs. Throughout the process, you’ll guide them in identifying job opportunities and navigating the application process. Success in this role requires empathy, flexibility, and a non-judgmental approach as you support individuals working to overcome personal and systemic barriers. This role involves working with clients in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES), a community known for its cultural diversity, resilience, and strong sense of activism. Many residents face complex challenges like poverty, homelessness, addiction, and mental health issues. Strong knowledge of job search strategies, career development theory, employment barriers, and accommodations for individuals with disabilities. Labour Market & Community Knowledge: Well-versed in local labour market trends, in-demand occupations, and community-based wraparound supports to help clients access appropriate services and opportunities. Communication & Relationship Building: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse clients, employers, and partners. Skilled in conflict resolution, diplomacy, and fostering collaborative relationships. Technical & Digital Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office, databases, and standard office equipment. Comfortable using digital platforms to communicate and deliver virtual or hybrid programming. Strong typing skills and attention to detail in documentation and reporting. Organizational & Time Management: Able to manage a high-volume caseload, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities while maintaining a high standard of client-centered service. Teamwork & Initiative: Able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Committed to the mission, vision, and values of Open Door Group.   Key Qualifications: * Diploma in Social Sciences or a relevant discipline * Recent, related experience of three (3) years, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in a helping profession supporting individuals with disabilities and complex barriers   Additional Qualifications * Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (can be acquired after hire) * Mental Health First Aid Training (can be acquired after hire) * Motivational Interviewing Training and Certification considered an asset * Trauma-Informed Practice Training and Certification are considered an asset * CCDP Certification is considered an asset * Career Development Practitioner Certificate is considered an asset. * May require a valid driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle during working hours * Must maintain a satisfactory criminal record, including a vulnerable sector check   Open Door Group values diversity and is committed to providing an inclusive work environment.
