The Employment Standards Branch provides the public with information regarding Employment Standards issues such as unpaid wages, vacation wages and termination of employment. Officers investigate complaints filed by employees about possible non-compliance with the Employment Standards Code and the Worker Recruitment and Protection Act.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must hold a valid Manitoba class 5F driver’s licence

Qualifications:

Essential

  • An undergraduate degree in labour studies, human resources, conflict resolution, criminal justice, or other related degrees plus experience in a complex problem-solving environment.
  • Effective conflict and dispute resolution skills and ability to remain neutral and impartial.
  • Extensive experience planning and performing complex investigations.
  • The ability to extract factual information, analyze and evaluate situations impartially and make logical decisions.
  • The ability to verbally communicate effectively on matters which are sensitive and frequently complex in nature with parties of differing backgrounds and interests.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to write reports and related documents in a clear and concise manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work with various stakeholders, mediate conflict situations, and handle sensitive, highly charged situations with tact.
  • Extensive experience with a high level of independent decision-making authority.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Experience working independently and with a team.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate the necessary resources to conduct investigations and effectively manage a workload with competing priorities, expectations, and deadlines.

Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of Claims Investigations or the Manager of the Client Services, the successful candidate will investigate complex multi-faceted claims involving employers and employees from across the province as well as temporary foreign worker issues such as illegal recruitment fees. The work involves the review of records, documents, and payroll information to make impartial legal determinations to ensure compliance with Employment Standards legislation, including the Employment Standards Code and the Worker Recruitment and Protection Act.
