Overview About the Role The primary purpose of the Emergency Medical Services Coordinator (Coordinator) is to provide managerial direction to, and assure the efficient operation of, the Special Operations division of the EMS system, function as theUHEMS oversight liaison to the New Jersey EMS Task Force (NJEMSTF) and various organizations which have public safety/health/healthcare/EMS related missions, goals, and objectives to plan, develop, write, design, implement, execute, assess, and analyze emergency preparedness and public health/safety projects; to open and manage University Hospital’s Medical Coordination Center (MCC) during public health emergencies and disasters; to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, orders, and best practices. The Coordinator will perform data analysis, prepare budgets and reports, assist the Director in long range planning for the department, participate in the hiring, training, mentoring, and managing of personnel, function as the Administrator on Call for incidents requiring a Coordinator for problem solving or decision making, complete all required reports and documentation, enforce operational policies and procedures, observe and evaluate employee performance, consider, meet, and exceed the expectations of customers and patients of all ages and from all populations which using age and population appropriate equipment and techniques; while actively seeking other assigned duties to support efficient UH operations and represent UH and EMS in a positive and professional manner. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Provides managerial leadership and ensures efficient daily operations of the EMS Special Operations division. Serves as the UHEMS liaison to the New Jersey EMS Task Force (NJEMSTF) and other public safety, health, and healthcare-related organizations. Plans, develops, writes, designs, implements, executes, and evaluates emergency preparedness and public health/safety programs and projects. Opens and manages University Hospital’s Medical Coordination Center (MCC) during public health emergencies and disasters. Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, directives, and industry best practices. Conducts data analysis and prepares budgets, reports, and other required documentation. Supports the Director with long‑range departmental planning. Participates in hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising staff. Acts as Administrator on Call for incidents requiring higher-level problem solving or decision-making. Enforces operational policies and procedures while maintaining thorough documentation. Observes, evaluates, and supports employee performance. Delivers exceptional service to patients and customers of all ages using appropriate equipment and techniques. Seeks additional responsibilities to support efficient hospital operations. Represents University Hospital and EMS positively and professionally in all interactions. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Administration, Business, Emergency Management, EMS, Public Health, or a related field. Candidates without the degree may substitute additional relevant experience on a year‑for‑year basis. Four (4) years of experience in a healthcare or emergency management–related field. At least two (2) years of experience in developing, implementing, and/or evaluating health programs within a public or private agency, including emergency planning at institutional, local, regional, state, or federal levels. Knowledge of: Joint Commission requirements Federal and state emergency operations plan/program requirements Standards within the emergency management community Minimum two (2) years of driving experience with a satisfactory driving record. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer proficiency. Ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences (laypersons, technical staff, clinicians, senior management). Strong human relations and leadership skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Preferred Qualifications Completion of FEMA EMI Professional Development Series and/or CEM® certification. Experience in emergency planning, emergency operations, communications, information technology, and command/control. Current EMT or Paramedic certification. Ability to pass: Medical evaluation Respirator fit test Ability to wear an N95 respirator per PEOSHA standards Spanish language proficiency. Required Credentials Valid NJ driver’s license, compliant with DOT/MVC regulations for assigned vehicles. Must be an authorized driver, approved by the EMS Operations Coordinator. ICS Level 400 or equivalent. NIMS Awareness (FEMA IS‑700). National Response Plan Introduction (FEMA IS‑800) or equivalent. Hazardous Materials – Operations level certification. WMD or CBRNE – Operations level certification.
