Job Details Job Location: Humboldt General Hospital - Winnemuca, NV 89445 POSITION SUMMARY The EMT Basic performs, under limited supervision, various patient care activities in the pre-hospital setting, in accordance with current applicable Federal, State and local standards, rules and regulations set forth by the state Emergency Medical Services office. Position Designation: The position of EMS EMT Basic is identified as “department safety-sensitive”. Department safety-sensitive positions means employment positions which may in the normal course of business: 1. Require the employee to operate the company vehicles or equipment. 2. Involves duties which, if performed with inattentiveness, errors in judgment, or diminished coordination, dexterity, or composure, may result in mistakes that could present a real and/or imminent threat to the personal health and safety of the employee, co-worker, and/or the public. Delegation of Authority: The EMS EMT Basic is delegated the authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out assigned duties. TASK LETTER CODE PRIMARY DUTIES (Are the essential job tasks or primary responsibilities that the individual who holds the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of an accommodation. For example: “DO” (action verb) + “WHAT” (object) – “Collects vitals from patients at the being of the visit according to clinic protocol”. % OF TIME PERFORMING DUTY A Participate as a member of an assigned crew for 911 emergency responses, inter-facility transports, rescue calls, and any other duties assigned by the EMS Supervisor or other appropriate authority. B Responds promptly to all 911 calls while on duty unless already dispatched on another call. C Performs pre-hospital duties in compliance with all state EMS rules and regulations under the direction of the department medical director. D Actively participates in safe delivery of patient care and maintains a safe environment of all patients. E Communicates with members of the health care team, patients and visitors using oral and written means and equipment such as the telephone and handheld radio. F Ensures accurate maintenance of patient’s medical records maintaining the confidentiality of patient information to assure patient’s rights are protected in accordance with the HIPPA regulations. G Performs vehicle maintenance or arranges to have maintenance performed as needed; cleans both inside and outside of ambulances as needed. H Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. I Assists with station cleanups. J Utilizes techniques of infection control, including proper hand washing and observing standard precautions. K Maintains harmonious relationship and open line of communication within the unit and with other departments, staff, physicians and other support personnel providing support and assistance to ensure quality patient care. L Demonstrates clinical competency in assigned area of responsibility. M Participates in stocking, sorting, or inventory of departmental supplies to ensure appropriate items are readily available for patient care needs. N Supports the department by attending, and constructively contributing to staff or other meetings as able/necessary. O Demonstrates technical competency through annual equipment certification, attending manufacturers’ sponsored in-services and additional training as required. P Maintains knowledge of regulatory standards as applied to area of responsibility. Q Communicates clearly and tactfully with patients, their families and other staff members. R Advises the department manager of activities, needs, problems and unusual events. S Is resourceful and calm in emergencies. T Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information. U Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. V Demonstrate sound operational and administrative judgment in all circumstances. W Maintain impartiality and apply ICARE value system to given situations. X Follow and enforce HGH EMS policies and procedures consistently and fairly. Y Ensure appropriate crew resource management, including enabling crew rest to avoid excessive fatigue. Z Other related duties as assigned. Qualifications POSITION QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM EDUCATION: High school graduate or equivalent PREFERRED EDUCATION: Associate degree or higher in related EMS field MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Two years’ experience desired. REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Current NV State EMT Basic Certification and Attendant License Current National Registry Certification (Preferred) Current Unrestricted Driver’s License Certifications (Must have the following or ability to obtain upon hire) PHTLS or ITLS ICS 100,200,700 and 800 BLS CPR Traffic Incident Management Emergency Vehicle Operations Course HAZMAT Awareness ROPES Technician Auto Extrication Certification NV State F endorsement on Driver’s License PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES: Current NV EMS Instructor, AHA instructor, Car Seat Technician, SPECIAL SKILLS: Working knowledge of HGH EMS policies and procedures, Knowledge of techniques, requirements and activities associated with emergency medical response. Critical-thinking, problem solving and analytical abilities. Knowledge of EMS practices, medical terminology, EMS equipment, and medical systems. Understand and interpret applicable federal, state and local laws. Top-notch mental acuity to handle medical emergencies and manage multiple tasks at once. Ability to work cooperatively with other employees and agencies to provide the highest level of patient care. Demonstrated ability in interpersonal; skills, strong communication skills, and problem solving. Responsibilities
