Description
Midwest Co-op is currently accepting resumes for the position of Energy Division Manager. Under direction of the General Manager, the Energy Division Manager is responsible for managing a territory that includes bulk petroleum and propane, pre-filled cylinder delivery, as well as support for branch filler plants, and card lock and bulk plant facilities. Key responsibilities include division growth and profitability through least cost distribution, price management, and innovation and development.   SUPERVISION AND LEADERSHIP  * Supervises Energy Operations Manager and Energy Sales & Marketing Manager. Provides leadership to the management team in the sales and service of Energy products and programs.  ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  * Manages Energy assets within the territory, which includes trucks, field equipment, filler plants, cylinders, related parts and company owned cardlocks. * Establishes and maintains a regular, proactive maintenance program for all facilities, field       equipment and trucks. Ensures MWC image is maintained and improved.  * Provides market intelligence, including customers gained / lost, competitive marketing initiatives and activities.   * Prepares a yearly business plan for the territory, which includes sales volumes, margin projections, expenses and capital and repair requirements. This may also include project management and execution. * Facilitates and solicits new business and new market opportunities, within the territory, to achieve business plan growth for the target market – the rural and urban customer. * Establishes most wanted customer lists for the territory. Ensures consistent and organized sales activity and effort throughout the territory. * Assists the credit department in managing accounts receivable. * Ensures that Division staff works in a safe and healthy environment. Ensures legislated and company policies are followed. Ensures all legislated procedures and requirements are followed. Ensures that all required licenses and permits are in place and current. Maintains current documentation with outside contractors as required.  * Maintains an up-to-date knowledge base of current legislative changes within the industry, as well as current trends in product marketing and distribution. * Ensures proper reporting and administration procedures are followed. * Oversees Operations Manager to ensure compliance of regulatory system requirements. * Represents MCS in a competent and professional manner. Maintains proper personal image and assigned company vehicle in a manner which promotes company image and sets example for the department. Represents MCS at meetings, providing information, communications, and leadership in local activities.  * Assists in other areas as required. * Working as part of the MCS team, ensures that company objectives, customer service levels, employee relations and inter-branch relations are improved and promoted.  OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS  * Follow the Occupational Health and Safety act (OHSA) for supervisors: ensure that a worker complies with the Act and regulations; ensure that any equipment, protective device or clothing required by the employer is used or worn by the worker; advise a worker of any potential or actual health or safety dangers known by the supervisor; if prescribed, provide a worker with written instructions about the measures and procedures to be taken for the worker’s protection; take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of workers. Managers are encouraged to attend Joint Health and Safety (JHSC) Meetings, serve on the executive, become certified workers, and to complete inspections with a Certified Worker when requested. * Participate in MCS training which includes, but not limited to, the mandatory Ministry of Labour course, MCS Health & Safety Standards and Policies, and Accessibility Policies (AODA). * Ensures that approved contractors have received and signed off on the H&S Contractor sign off form prior to work being performed. * Ensures that all licenses, certificates, and regulatory requirements are maintained and followed by the location and MCS employees. * Performs other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS  * Normally requires a minimum of a college diploma or a university degree in agriculture, business, or other related discipline. Ideally has 5-8 years management experience, preferably within the petroleum/propane industry. * Strong knowledge of regulations/legislation pertaining to the industry * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with strong interpersonal and organizational skills, effective supervisory skills and the ability to multi-task. * Must also possess a valid driver’s license (preferably class DZ), a driving abstract that represents a history of safe operation, as well as the ability to maintain insurability, travel independently and overnight as required. * Normally trained in several of the following: G3, G2, OBT, PM3, CPPI (petroleum handling), Fuel Fire and Spills Response, ROT (propane handling), Propane Pump Attendant, Lifting Devices (forklift and crane) and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.   * May be required to work extended hours, particularly during peak seasons. WORKING CONDITIONS  * Working indoors and outdoors as required. Some climbing and lifting is required. Some travel within and outside the market area may be required. * Work will regularly be conducted in an office environment. Regular outdoor activity should be expected, especially during peak seasons * May be exposed to a moderate amount of climbing and working at heights. * The Manager may be continuously exposed to dust, agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, fumes and smells from gasoline, propane, diesel, fuel, and lubricants.  * When making service calls to company and customer locations, travelling may result in driving on gravel roads for extended periods, driving in winter conditions, and occasional storm-like conditions. * Additional hours, or time outside of normal hours, may be necessary due to operational requirements. * CSA approved safety boots are mandatory safety attire. Other personal protective equipment maybe required to be worn such as hard hats, coveralls, safety glasses, hearing protection, dust masks, respiratory equipment, hi-vis attire and fall arrest equipment.
