The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP’s water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Office of Energy and Resource Recovery Programs (Energy Office) is charged with plotting the course for DEP to meet its energy and carbon neutrality goals, as well as maximizing resource recovery. The Energy Office also provides energy and performance tracking, program assessment, scientific research, emergency planning and internal auditing services to DEP’s operating bureaus.
The Energy Office is responsible for advancing priority project that realize energy savings or reduce GHG emissions; the Office is looking to hire an Energy Project Manager who will report to the Deputy Director of Energy Projects to make sure priority projects advance on schedule and deliver the full project scope required to meet the agency’s goals. The Energy Project Manager will gather information from operational bureaus and Energy Office databases to justify and advance energy projects. They will support analysis to determine the scope of potential energy savings and GHG emission reductions and comment on business cases and in design meetings to push for inclusion of energy saving measures.
This role will be responsible for ensuring that projects realize projected savings and will monitoring progress of energy projects from project initiation to construction completion. Candidates should have experience designing and implementing Measurement and Verification (M&V) plans and tracking progress across a portfolio of projects. The Energy Project Manager will attend internal progress meetings for energy projects and prepare documentation as needed to support project delivery.
