Energy Risk Engineering Manager
London/Dubai/Hybrid
The Opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Energy Risk Engineering Manager to join our Onshore Energy team. This high-impact role will serve as a key technical specialist, supporting underwriters by providing expert analysis of engineering reports, conducting independent site surveys, and offering informed risk assessments. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping underwriting decisions, engaging directly with clients, and delivering insights that influence business outcomes. This is a dynamic position that combines technical depth with strategic exposure across the energy portfolio.
At QBE, we strike the perfect balance—not too big, not too small—giving you the opportunity to make a real contribution. With hybrid working arrangements, excellent benefits, and a supportive environment, we are committed to helping you succeed and grow.

Your new role:

  • Contribute to underwriting strategy through development of engineering deliverables and activities
  • Manages tactical engineering plan and provides support to others to achieve positive results in line with strategy
  • Optimize engineering risk management reporting by monitoring performance and making improvement recommendations and taking action as appropriate
  • Establish and maintain a robust engineering risk management framework that adheres to relevant engineering/risk management and good practice, meets all internal reporting requirements, identifies and effectively controls engineering risk, and manages engineering costs and fee recoveries
  • Ensure that strong relationships with core accounts are developed e.g. through presentations and specialist reviews involving underwriters as appropriate
  • Visiting clients and conducting detailed surveys of sites to be insured
  • Writing reports for underwriters
  • Participate in risk engineering surveys as required
  • Conduct “Desktop” risk assessments of account information to assess risk quality.
  • Share risk information through communications and forums so that underwriters develop greater knowledge of risk e.g. summarize industry codes and communicate these

About you:

  • Able to clearly articulate technical insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including underwriters and clients.
  • Confident in building relationships and influencing decisions across a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Comfortable interpreting complex engineering data and drawing independent, well-reasoned conclusions.
  • Works effectively as part of a cross-functional team, contributing to shared goals while maintaining accountability for individual deliverables.
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage competing demands, assess urgency and impact, and allocate time and resources to the most critical tasks without losing sight of broader objectives.
