JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Energy and Sustainability Specialist role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is responsible for providing operational support and solutions for energy and sustainability projects, initiatives, and daily functions. As a member of the Energy & Sustainability team, this role works under the guidance of the Sustainability Manager to help team members coordinate daily operations and to provide administrative support within the Energy & Sustainability department. The role works cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of associates, leadership, and external partners to maximize performance, creativity, problem solving, and results. This role also works closely with members of the Procurement, Store Maintenance, and other Property Development teams to continually enhance and improve business processes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, finance, environmental science, environmental studies or related fields is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • 1 or more years of professional experience in energy or sustainability in retail, property management, construction, manufacturing or related fields is preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical, quantitative, and statistical skills are preferred.
  • Working knowledge of financial modeling, financial reporting, and cash flow information is preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and Google platform (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).

Responsibilities
  • Provide support around energy projects and sustainability initiatives, including management of retail Energy Management System (“EMS”) platforms.
  • Track and analyze “Demand Response” performance and operations.
  • Communicate and address chain wide lighting schedule needs for stores and facilities.
  • Conduct research for energy and sustainability future business needs and requirements.
  • Create agendas and itineraries for Energy and Sustainability team events and initiatives.
  • Support and troubleshoot all EMS inquiries on behalf of the Energy & Sustainability team.
  • Track inventory, ensure appropriate inventory levels, and manage the shipping and receiving of all EMS materials.
  • Under the direction of the Sustainability Manager, analyze, develop, and maintain all energy and sustainability projects and programs.
  • Use a variety of analytical tools and operation platforms to support daily functions.
  • Work closely with the Sustainability Manager to compile and analyze data in connection with submissions for energy and sustainability certifications/awards, prepare utilities-related reporting, and determine program efficiency.
  • Partner with the Sustainability Manager, OSJL’s Finance department, and other internal departments to review quarterly and annual utility reporting.
  • Manage, complete, and track all utility-related transfers for move in and move out of tenants in Company-owned plazas and new stores and properties.
  • Manage the Energy and Sustainability team’s invoices. Process utility wire transactions twice a week to ensure all utility bills are accurately paid.
  • Partner with outside utility consultants to pull data off bills monthly.
  • Coordinate and participate in internal and external user group meetings.
