The Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Engagement Coordinator for approximately 12 months.
The Haskayne School of Business has more than 4,000 full- and part-time students currently enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate programs, and 25,000 alumni in 80 countries. Haskayne’s 2025 Strategy embraces a vision to be where big ideas come to life and bold leaders thrive. The Haskayne Centres play a key role in delivering impactful student experiences and outstanding thought leadership and learning opportunities for meaningful engagement with the community on campus, in Calgary and beyond.
The centres of excellence within the Haskayne Centres currently include the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, the Canadian Centre for Advanced Leadership in Business, the Westman Centre for Real Estate Studies, the Trico Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Centre, along with a number of other experiential learning and community engagement initiatives. Established through philanthropy and community investment, the Centres provide unique and transformative experiences at the intersection of students, faculty and the business community.
Reporting to the Haskayne Centres’ Program Lead, Community Engagement, the Engagement Coordinator will support the Haskayne Centres’ community-focused experiential learning portfolio, which primarily includes Propel (micro-internships for graduate students) and the Real Deal (an in-class guest speaker program).
This position is expected to improve coordination within and across Haskayne Centres’ programming and initiatives with the aim to bridge the gap between theory and professional practice for students. The incumbent will keep current with trends in experiential learning, volunteer and community engagement, event execution and logistics as they relate to the portfolio. The incumbent will collaborate and work with Haskayne Centres and Haskayne School of Business colleagues and partners across campus to deliver relevant and impactful programming opportunities.
This position requires frequent interactions with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders. A professional and mature manner and excellent communication skills are essential. This position works within a framework of University and School policies and procedures and uses personal initiative and good judgment. The position requires a positive attitude, readiness to collaborate and skill in maintaining effective relationships with various stakeholders.
This position normally works Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M, 7 hours per day (35 hours per week), although extended or alternative hours (evenings and weekends) may be required. This role is limited term, one year, with possibility of extension.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
The Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the successful execution of existing programs and initiatives, and continuous improvement of programs and initiatives under the direction of the Program Lead, Community Engagement. This position coordinates programs through the entire programming cycle, including the following phases: needs assessment/diagnostic, delivery, evaluation and reporting. These programs include the Real Deal, where the focus is supporting faculty to bring community and industry guest speaker panels into their classrooms, and Propel, where the focus will be recruiting students to participate in the program and working with small businesses, start-ups, social enterprises and non-profits to source internship projects. The Engagement Coordinator will also support matching projects and students and ensuring students complete deliverables throughout the program.

Program and Project Management :

  • Consult with the Haskayne Centres team and stakeholders to identify programming objectives and take responsibility for planning the scope and format of said programming
  • Design and implement processes and templates for supporting students and community partners in creating appropriate project plans for the different projects in the program portfolio
  • Assist in the planning and execution of multiple initiatives, including events and programming that are evolving and long-term in nature; the focus is on relevant, meaningful community engagement and impactful student experiences connected to these opportunities
  • Act as a liaison with individuals and groups in the school on behalf of the relevant programs, across all programs (MBA, Masters of Management, BComm)
  • Assist with ensuring that program and logistics and preparations (such as venue arrangements, catering, signage, invitations, accommodations, transportation, etc.) are organized, documented, communicated and implemented
  • Create, update and distribute timelines, supports the preparation of collateral (program brief, speaking notes, presentations, invitations, logistical information related to programs and initiatives etc.) and provides information to all relevant stakeholders prior to and throughout the program
  • Coordinate the collection of metrics related to initiatives
  • Support team members and faculty with thank-you gifts, parking codes, and briefs for volunteers visiting campus for experiential learning purposes
  • Exercise sound judgement and decision-making within the University guidelines to ensure the successful delivery of initiatives, events and activities

Student Coordination and Support :

  • Take the lead on recruiting student participants in the Propel program, with a focus on MBA and Master of Management students
  • Support community partners and students through the Haskayne Centres experiential learning process and approach as required for the portfolio
  • Coordinate plans and logistics for community partners and individuals for advising, panels and speaking opportunities on various discussion topics
  • Advises students and guides them in finding appropriate resources and opportunities that maximize their development as it relates to the Haskayne Centres programs and initiatives

Leadership in Experiential Learning for Programs and Initiatives :

  • Coordinate and promote experiential learning within the relevant student body and to stakeholders
  • Remain current in emerging experiential learning theory and practice, such as service learning, work-based learning, action research, and community-based learning with guidance from the Program Lead, Community Engagement and Director, Haskayne Centres
  • Demonstrate creativity and initiative to support continuous improvement and encourage positive outcomes

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

  • An undergraduate degree, certificate, or diploma in event management, business, or project management is required
  • 3 or more years of experience in program delivery, event or project management is required
  • Knowledge of experiential learning programs and best practices is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of and experience in leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation, and social enterprise is considered an asset
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills to deal effectively with complex tasks and issues are required
  • Proven ability to meet competing and concurrent deadlines in a fast-paced environment with constantly shifting priorities required
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required
  • The ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance the student learning experience and increase engagement is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven record of ability to work collaboratively, nurturing positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and community partners is critical to the success of this role
  • Demonstrated experience in developing collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders is required
  • Knowledge of University policies and regulations is considered an asset
