JOB DESCRIPTION

Public sector data has the potential to radically transform people’s lives through boosting economic growth, underpinning ground breaking research, improving the delivery of public services and fuelling cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) development and applications across the economy.
The National Data Library (NDL) is a high profile, ambitious, manifesto commitment which intends to realise this potential through responsibly unlocking the highest-value public sector data for use by businesses, academia and the public sector.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive candidate to join the friendly and inclusive Engagement Team within the wider NDL programme.
The Engagement team is responsible for building trust and awareness across a range of public, private and civil society stakeholders for one of the government’s most ambitious data transformation programmes.
You will play a key role in shaping how the National Data Library engages with stakeholders across government, academia, industry, and the public. You will help design and implement a programme of engagement that ensures the NDL is transparent, collaborative, and aligned with the needs of its users and the wider public.
This role is being advertised in Manchester, but existing DSIT staff based in other locations can apply and remain in their location.

Responsibilities

The specific responsibilities this role may evolve with departmental priorities, but are expected to include:

  • Support the development and delivery of engagement strategies and plans for the National Data Library, tailored to different stakeholder groups.
  • Support the design and delivery of external engagement activities, including roundtables, workshops, consultations, and communications campaigns.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government departments, data providers, research institutions, and civil society organisations.
  • Provide high-quality policy advice and briefing to senior officials and ministers on engagement strategy and findings.
  • Monitor and evaluate stakeholder feedback to inform future engagement activities, policy development, governance design, and the overall direction of the NDL programme.
  • Draft clear, accessible communications materials for internal and external audiences, and responding to government and external commissions
