ARE Job Description – Engagement Manager (China office)
Asia Research and Engagement (ARE) brings the voice of investors to Asia’s sustainable development challenges. ARE is seeking an Engagement Manager to assist with engagement work with targeted companies in China. The focus will mainly be on energy companies, financial institutions, steel companies and other commercial businesses or social entities. The Manager will support the China Country Director to develop relationships with companies and investors, which will catalyse the engagement work backed by our platform investors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build relationships with companies by arranging meetings, presenting and sharing information.
  • Implement engagement and communication with companies backed by platform investors to develop and influence companies’ decarbonization strategies.
  • Collaborate with team members in China and Singapore on research publications and writing communications, including reports, presentations, blogs, articles, etc.
  • Support the team in maintaining and updating a database of research on corporate targets, regulatory policies and changes across finance, energy and heavy industry-related sectors.
  • Ensure the quality and accuracy of information, and be a knowledge manager in specific markets.

Requirements and competencies:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in corporate business development, finance, investment, energy, heavy industry, sustainability or other relevant sector with the appropriate skill set.
  • Relevant academic background with bachelor’s or master’s degree level in subjects such as economics, finance, business or environmental management.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English speaking/writing experience in relationship building, analysis and benchmarking, preferably in financing, energy, carbon, heavy industry or sustainability.
  • A good understanding of how climate change and environmental concerns relate to business risks and opportunities.
