POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Design Systems Engineer (DSE) is responsible for coordinating the technical aspects of base engine design to meet customer requirements, functional objectives, and quality targets. The scope of work includes base engine design, validation planning, testing coordination, issue resolution, and full lifecycle program support.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of engineering experience in propulsion systems and/or engine calibration.
  • Solid understanding of phased-gate product development and launch processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical topics and present to executive leadership.
  • Strong team leadership, organizational, and multitasking abilities.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed with a track record of managing multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Family Manager, Purchasing, and other teams to develop resource timelines and validation plans.
  • Collaborate on test planning to optimize resources and execution.
  • Guide Release Engineers on the development of design quality documentation, ensuring technical oversight and proper approvals.
  • Provide support in creating and tracking validation timelines.
  • Attend and participate in Technical Review sessions, guiding Release Engineers in developing objective scorecard recommendations.
  • Provide technical feedback and direction to Propulsion System teams (transmission, driveline, calibration, etc.) both onsite and remotely.
  • Support engine testing including dyno setup, test cell support, and real-time triage of issues.
  • Lead efforts in root cause analysis of part failures and test cell issues, managing or participating in related task forces.
  • Track and report on validation status for each engine development phase, escalating risks where appropriate.
  • Chair engine teardown reviews and manage associated documentation.
  • Own and author engine build documentation and manuals.
  • Interface with software, controls, and calibration teams to ensure timely delivery of all technical deliverables.
  • Lead task force meetings to resolve complex technical issues between calibration, controls, and hardware systems.
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality technical presentations for leadership reviews on topics including design issues, functional performance, and testing results.
  • Interface regularly with PS engineering and design teams.
  • Gather requirements and perform engineering design change work based on ECNs.
  • Use company systems and processes for engineering documentation and communication.
  • Ensure delivery quality and timing of all assigned work packages.
  • Communicate proactively regarding technical issues and mitigation strategies.
  • Document customer acceptance of completed work.
  • Provide consistent progress updates and maintain open communication with leadership.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for technical and process improvements.
