Description
This individual will perform laboratory testing and research to support the development and commercialization of a 3D Printable Mortar (3DPM). They will undertake product development and research tasks in the laboratory, office, university and field environments. This person will be supervised by a Product Development Manager and will be trained by experienced CTS engineers on the procedures and requirements to complete tasks and projects using various ASTM standard test methods and in-house procedures. This individual will gain hands-on professional experience contributing to the full development cycle of a new construction material, from laboratory characterization through field trials, contractor engagement, and market introduction. Education Required * Graduate-level coursework or research in construction materials, concrete technology, or a related field * Familiarity with standard concrete testing methods (ASTM) Responsibilities and Key Tasks * Develop working familiarity with calcium sulfoaluminate cement and hydration reactions * Characterize existing CTS 3DPM formulations across a range of water-to-cement ratios, including pump trials * Present prior research, with focus on freeze-thaw durability and interlayer bond strength of 3DPM * Survey competitor products and university R&D mix designs relevant to 3D concrete printing. * Research air-entraining admixtures and evaluate their suitability for 3DPM applications * Prepare air-entrained samples and test per ASTM C666. Identify the best-performing air entrainer and optimal dosage for freeze thaw durability * Engage a local university research lab to evaluate testing equipment availability and schedule material characterization work * Connect with at least one local contractor or company with access to a 3D concrete printer to facilitate field trial printing * Document all results from internal laboratory testing and external facilities Managerial Responsibilities * No managerial responsibilities Direction Received * Product Development Engineer and Manager will provide direction
