Description

The Engineer AGL is responsible for monitoring all tasks related to Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) and the Airfield Lighting Control and Monitoring System (ALCMS) performed by the AGL service provider, ensuring compliance with regulatory and operational requirements. The role ensures that all activities align with manufacturer recommendations and meet field serviceability KPIs set in the maintenance contract. The Engineer also reviews service provider records, conducts site inspections, verifies accuracy, and reports to the line manager.

CORE COMPETENCIES & SKILLS:

  • Strong understanding of airside operations.
  • Knowledge of AGL Systems and ALCMS (including A-SMGCS Level 4).
  • Electrical engineering knowledge with the ability to interpret and correct AGL-related drawings/designs (AutoCAD).
  • Proficiency in preparing scope of work and bills of quantities for AGL projects.
  • Familiarity with governance and compliance requirements (AWAC, ATAC, AMC 25 & 59 Steps 1–3, MOC requirements).
  • Specialist knowledge in Airfield Lighting Systems.
  • Good understanding of airport operational requirements.
  • Familiar with ICAO and GCAA regulations for AGL.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and capability to write technical reports.
  • Collaborative, calm, and logical thinker under high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to lead by example, act quickly, and maintain commitment until tasks/issues are resolved.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Systems, or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in airports, with progressive responsibility in AGL operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Implement maintenance policy guidelines as received.
  • Ensure AGL Maintenance Service Provider complies with service levels and KPIs.
  • Review and verify service provider records of ALCMS system inspections, PPM, etc., and report compliance status to line manager.
  • Prepare regular and special reports as required.
  • Compare maintenance records with previous results to identify discrepancies.
  • Supervise AGL activities, ensuring effective procedures for fault diagnosis, corrective maintenance, and servicing.
  • Provide feedback, inputs, and suggestions to the AGL Manager on identified issues.
  • Monitor methods, tools, and processes used by technicians and advise on improvements.
  • Ensure maintenance works and operations are performed safely and efficiently without disrupting airport operations.Participate in project coordination, providing subject matter expertise to the line manager.
