WHAT’S NEEDED TO SUCCEED (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, aerospace, electrical) , a related technical field, or equivalent experience
  • Entry-level to 5 years of engineering experience
  • Ability to apply engineering expertise to aircraft systems, maintenance programs, and engines
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills for regulatory compliance
  • Excellent verbal and technical writing skills
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of the interview
  • Reliable and punctual attendance

WHAT WILL HELP YOU PROPEL FROM THE PACK (PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS):

  • Master’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering
  • Airline experience
  • Experience with aircraft certification, airworthiness regulations, or FAA Part 121 operations
  • Knowledge of fleet reliability programs, maintenance planning, or aircraft system integration
  • Proficiency with engineering analysis tools (CATIA, MATLAB, CAD, or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with aircraft troubleshooting or maintenance programs
  • Demonstrated leadership on cross-functional technical projects
  • Passion for aviation and a commitment to safety and innovation
    The base pay range for this role is $81,700.00 to $106,368.00.
    The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.

Responsibilities

As an Engineer – Aircraft Systems, you will play a critical role in the design, maintenance, and operation of United’s aircraft systems. You will collaborate with engineers and technical experts to solve complex issues and implement solutions that improve aircraft performance and safety.

Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide engineering support across aircraft systems, engines, and maintenance programs
  • Analyze and resolve design, performance, and repair challenges for aircraft and components
  • Develop and implement safe, compliant maintenance solutions and configuration programs
  • Evaluate cost, operational impact, and benefits of fleet-related engineering decisions
  • Partner with internal teams and external vendors to address technical issues and conduct investigations
  • Review and assess manufacturer Service Bulletins for fleet applicability
  • Manage projects from development through implementation, including FAA approvals and warranty recovery
  • Collaborate across operational groups to ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency

Location & Schedule: This role is based in Houston, TX, or Chicago, IL, and follows a hybrid work schedule with three days per week in-office (subject to change)
