Job description: Job Summary To lead the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of civil and infrastructure projects within the mining lease area. The Civil Engineer will apply technical expertise and supervisory skills to ensure projects meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental stewardship, while being delivered on time and within budget. Responsibilities Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ): Take full accountability for HSEQ aspects of assigned projects. Uphold legal responsibilities under Mining Regulation 214(1) of 2007. Ensure all work complies with relevant legislation and internal procedures. Maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental compliance. Adhere to FQM’s Work WFL protocols, including work packs, work plans, risk assessments, and permits. Technical Execution and Project Delivery: Plan and execute civil engineering projects (e.g., roads, buildings, earthworks, drainage). Develop and review technical drawings and specifications. Conduct site inspections and topographical surveys. Manage project budgets, timelines, and resource allocation. Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders. Monitor quality control and ensure compliance with engineering standards. Provide mentorship and technical guidance to graduate trainees and contractors. Support the strategic asset management plan for civil infrastructure on the mine lease. Site and Team Supervision: Supervise multi-disciplinary teams including graduate trainees, artisans, charge-hands, and contractors. Allocate tasks, oversee timekeeping, and enforce quality control. Ensure that when not present, a competent person-in-charge (PIC) is appointed under MR215. Coordinate closely with stakeholders to achieve safety, quality, and productivity targets. Operational Oversight: Ensure availability and correct usage of PPE, tools, machinery, and permits. Support efficient project execution through effective planning and communication. Participate in audits, incident investigations, and compliance reviews. Maintain project site logbooks; acquire and/or issue permits; conduct JRAs and safety inspections; report project progress and incidents. Other Duties: Collaborate across departments and multidisciplinary teams. Provide mentorship to junior engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives. Perform any other duties assigned by the Civil Coordinator or Superintendent. Qualifications Full Grade 12 Certificate. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or another relevant civil engineering field. Registered with the Engineering Registration Board (EngRB). Experience & Competencies At least 4 years of relevant experience in a construction environment. Proven supervisory experience managing and enforcing safety standards. Safety-driven: Strong regulatory discipline with focus on compliance.
