Job Title: Data Engineer Location: Salt Lake City, UT Schedule: 5/2/4/3 – Role will be required to work shift schedules up request and with advance notice. About the role The Data Engineer is critical in supporting control room designs, maintains, and optimizes the data pipelines that feed real-time operational information into monitoring and control systems. They ensure data is accurate, reliable, and efficiently processed so control room specialists can make informed decisions quickly. The role bridges operational technology (OT) and data infrastructure, enabling advanced analytics, automation, and continuous improvement in mine operations. Duties and Responsibilities include: Ensure adherence to data and information management best practices in alignment with business standards and procedures. Advise and assist teams on the optimal use and capabilities of databases. Conduct systematic data cleaning exercises in integrated and legacy databases. Ensure that information is current, accurate, and easily accessible. Build, maintain, and deliver reporting mechanisms to assist with operational decisions as it relates to safety, cost, planning compliance, and quality metrics. Provide training to enable effective utilization of data and information management processes and systems. Assist in updating Business Classification Schemes and metadata tables, ensuring regional relevance and meaningfulness. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of databases, systems, and related technologies, making relevant recommendations for improvements Support the implementation of improvement initiatives related to data and information systems. Provide input on communication, planning, implementation, and review processes. Assist in implementing best practices and fit-for-purpose data and information systems, processes, and solutions Minimum Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Geoscience, or related field. 2 years of relevant experience. Experience in data analysis, database management, and data visualization, is considered desirable. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Provide direction and support to control room specialist Lead best practices in data management Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders through effective collaboration Maintain high standards of ethical behavior, accountability, and compliance Functional background in data analysis and database management Computer proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word processing, Spreadsheet management, E-mail management). Preferred Qualifications Proficiency in database management systems (e.g., MS SQL Server, SAP) is preferred. Demonstrated experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI, PI Vision) is preferred. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. Experience with underground mining operations and geoscientific systems preferred. Demonstrated experience with operational planning and shift execution software tools (Deswik, GroundHog, Pitram, ect.) is preferred.
