Product & Process EngineerRole Purpose Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions and cost reduction projects. Supports drive to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. Supports the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a superior product in terms of quality and/or cost. Understands Corning's Intellectual property management processes and follows that process in documenting any intellectual property developed as part of a projectKey Responsibilities Provides day-to-day problem solving support to production, development and research operations Trains operators and trades personnel on new equipment and processes Uses rigorous processes and technical knowledge to build detailed technical understanding for key process steps Functions as a team member or team leader on focused projects Trouble shoots material, process and equipment issues, identifies root cause and implements corrective action Implements and documents material, process and/or equipment changes Uses simple statistical tools and Designed Experiments (DOE) in process problem solving and process improvement; Uses more sophisticated statistical tools and DOE techniques in problem solving and process/product improvement Assure quality and repeatability of processes and products Supports new product introductions through equipment installation, process certification, documentation and training Assures safety of operators and equipment and Complies with safety and environmental regulations Develops SME knowledge of material, process and/or equipment in focused areas of manufacturing or engineering Executes cost reduction and improvement (DMAIC) projects in line with business objectives Experiences/Education - Required Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical experience or equivalent experience (exceptional case) Yellow Belt Training Track record of delivering results Demonstrated knowledge in a technical field Project team membership Experiences/Education - Desired Summer Intern experience/progressive experience within the field of engineering Green Belt Certification Project Team Leadership Shift supervisory experience Purpose of Position   Functions as a technical resource and design owner of assigned value streams. Responsible for ensuring fit/form/function of existing products. Supports project execution between development and manufacturing as an impartial 3rd party with the expertise to balance risks between business demands, process performance and product assurance. Responsible to participate on project teams to resolve performance and customer related issues; propose product and process enhancements, opportunities for product and process alignment, and cost reductions. Understands manufacturing processes on assigned value stream, keeps accountability on sustaining and/or enhancing process performance. Major Responsibility   Clarify, understand, and document customer requirements, product specifications and product application. Ensure Fit, Form, Function through appropriate qualification test plans, design control and change approval while balancing speed to market and profitability. Quickly and effectively respond to customer and commercial requests for rapid product changes. Drive technically rigorous root cause analysis for product integrity and process performance issues. Support and validate product and process cost reduction opportunities through product lifecycle. Evolve product performance to meet competitive pressure and industry trends. Monitor performance of manufacturing processes within assigned value stream, understand process capability and support process enhancements. Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in technical area/ Engineering degree Master’s degree is preferred Intermediate level project management knowledge, including standard methodologies and best practices Minimum of 4+ years of experience in development, product, or process engineering Strong customer awareness, with the ability to understand customer needs and translate them into actionable technical or product solutions Required Competency (Skills, Knowledge and Abilities) Good knowledge of core engineering principles is a must, knowledge of telecommunications products, network technologies, experience in fiber optic technologies is preferred Project leadership skills, including experience working with multicultural teams, with the ability to translate customer needs into clear technical requirements and product design inputs Strong data-based decision-making skills* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work within defined procedures while exercising sound engineering judgment on routine to moderately complex issues Innovation-driven mindset with the ability to propose practical and effective solutions Fluent in both written and spoken English Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel for data analysis and reporting
