JOB DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for managing, maintaining and updating laboratory equipment in line with the FICS Research projects and service agreements as needed. Laboratory equipment includes: X-ray tomography, Dual beam FIB/SEMs, He/Ne ion microscope, Photon Emission Microscope, Digital microscope, and Probe station. Evaluates, recommends and implements upgrade paths for new specialized lab equipment as deemed necessary to stay up-to-date with new technology.
Monitors, maintains, calibrates, and troubleshoots laboratory and mechanical room equipment. Communicates and oversees infrastructure changes and updates in lab and mechanical room facilities (including: vacuum pumps, air compressors, water chiller, etc.) as needed and keeps the laboratory and mechanical room secure and well organized. Orders necessary parts and equipment for assigned teaching labs, working closely with vendors on competitive pricing. Assists professors and teaching assistants in the day-to-day operations of assigned labs on an as needed basis. Designs and implements improvements to maintain efficient operations and positive learning environment of teaching labs. Works with lab professors and vendors to keep the student lab kits current.
Performs sample preparation for microscopy in FICS Research laboratory and UF research service centers. Conducts lab tours for visitors and/or collaborators. Trains new users on equipment including undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and other professional engineers. Coordinates and instructs graduate engineers in laboratory equipment operations and functions and manages lab access for each user. Maintains logs of instrument usage, as well as users, and manages access of laboratory equipment and review of security camera footage.
Assists the SCAN Lab Directors or other FICS Research engineers in collecting data and writing sponsored research reports and technical papers for publication and/or presentation.
Performs other related duties as assigned by FICS Research Director.
