Engineer in Training (EIT) positions with the EIT Rotation Program involve work that falls within the infrastructure spectrum of planning, capital construction, and maintenance in the areas of transportation, water and wastewater and solid waste management. As an EIT, you will have an opportunity to develop the 22 engineering competencies, as per the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) through annual placements into EIT rotation positions with participating Business Units. Primary duties include:
- Apply engineering theory, prepare and check designs or engineering interpretations, and collect, review, create, and analyze technical data and information.
- Drive to active construction and work sites, develop the ability to recognize limitations in designs, interpretations or recommendations, and apply codes and regulations.
- Manage personnel and project resources, develop and review tender documents, and monitor budgets.
- Support or lead condition assessment program delivery, including data collection and validation, data analysis using Excel or ArcGIS and feasibility studies for asset management plans.
- Research tools and processes related to lifecycle analysis and risk analysis, numerical methods, statistics, costing, data mining, and process simulation to support operational asset management needs.
- Prepare written technical and benchmarking reports, recommendations, memorandums, and asset management plans; present to management, peers, project partners and the public.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering and registration as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) by the first day of work.
- Those hired prior to graduation from an undergraduate Engineering degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering must be registered as an Engineer-In-Training (EIT) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) no later than three months from their start date.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or a provincial equivalent) with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR a valid Graduated Driver’s License (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
- Use of a personal vehicle for work or reliable transportation to access remote work sites is required.
- Ability to obtain a City of Calgary operator’s permit.
- Preference will be given to applicants with up to 1 year of post graduation EIT experience.
- Experience working with roadway materials, contractor management, and project management will be considered an asset.
- Experience working with utilities, asset management, data collection and analysis, and pipe integrity assessments would be considered an asset.
- Proficiency with ArcGIS and SQL would be considered an asset.
