Description Position Summary The Engineering Manager is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, and preventative maintenance operations of the hotel. This position ensures the property, equipment, guest rooms, public areas, life safety systems, and mechanical systems are maintained to brand standards, safety regulations, and operational expectations. The Engineering Manager oversees engineering staff, vendors, capital projects, and departmental budgets while ensuring a safe, clean, and functional environment for guests and team members. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Property Maintenance & Operations Oversee the daily operation of the Engineering Department. Ensure all guest rooms, public areas, meeting spaces, back-of-house areas, and exterior grounds are maintained in excellent condition. Maintain all HVAC, plumbing, electrical, kitchen, laundry, pool, fire safety, and mechanical systems. Respond quickly to guest and operational maintenance requests. Conduct daily property inspections and identify repair needs. Ensure all hotel equipment is operating efficiently and safely. Coordinate emergency repairs and minimize operational disruption. Preventative Maintenance Develop and manage preventative maintenance programs for all hotel systems and equipment. Ensure compliance with brand standards and local/state/federal regulations. Maintain accurate engineering logs, maintenance records, and inspection reports. Schedule and oversee preventative maintenance in guest rooms and public spaces. Life Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with OSHA, fire safety, health department, and hotel brand requirements. Coordinate fire alarm, sprinkler, elevator, and life safety inspections. Maintain permits, certifications, and inspection records. Lead safety training and support emergency preparedness procedures. Ensure proper handling and storage of chemicals and hazardous materials. Financial Management Manage engineering department labor and operating expenses. Prepare and monitor departmental budgets and forecasts. Control costs through proper inventory management and vendor negotiations. Assist with capital expenditure planning and property improvement projects. Review invoices and ensure accurate coding of departmental expenses. Team Leadership Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate engineering staff. Schedule team members to ensure proper coverage and productivity. Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and guest service. Provide coaching and development opportunities for team members. Support cross-department communication and operational coordination. Vendor & Project Management Coordinate outside contractors and service vendors. Ensure all vendor work meets hotel standards and safety requirements. Assist with renovations, brand initiatives, and property improvement plans (PIPs). Monitor project timelines and completion standards. Qualifications Minimum 3–5 years of hotel engineering or maintenance leadership experience. Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems. Previous supervisory or management experience required. Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with hotel brand standards preferred. Working knowledge of preventative maintenance systems. Ability to read blueprints and technical manuals. Strong communication and leadership skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems.
