Job Description The Early Career Talent (ECT) -- Engineering will join Western Digital's Head Backend Business Unit under the BEST Program, a structured 24-month development journey covering Foundation Training (Months 1-12) and Applied Projects (Months 13-18) before permanent deployment in Months 19-24. The ECT will support slider processing and HGA (Head Gimbal Assembly) manufacturing operations, working alongside senior engineers on process improvement, quality assurance, yield analysis, and manufacturing efficiency initiatives. This role is based in the Philippines (PHO) and reports to the assigned Program Owner under the Head Backend Operations organization. The ECT will be assigned a dedicated senior engineer mentor throughout the program. Key responsibilities include: Participating in structured technical training modules covering WD manufacturing systems, safety, quality standards, and engineering fundamentals Supporting small-scope improvement projects in Phase 2 under mentor guidance Documenting observations, completing standard work instructions, and contributing to yield and efficiency data collection Engaging in regular check-ins, milestone assessments, and Individual Development Plan (IDP) reviews Demonstrating continuous learning and commitment to the 24-month program through to permanent absorption This position is part of our Early Career program at WD. Our Early Career program is designed to support individuals beginning their professional career by providing foundational training through a structured onboarding, mentorship, and development curriculum. Qualifications REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related field Fresh graduate or maximum 1 year of work experience Basic understanding of manufacturing processes or engineering principles Willingness to commit to the full 24-month BEST Program structure PREFERRED: Academic exposure to data analysis, statistics, or process engineering • Internship or project experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment Familiarity with quality tools (SPC, FMEA, 8D) or Lean/Six Sigma concepts Exposure to the HDD, semiconductor, or precision manufacturing industry SKILLS: Analytical and problem-solving mindset Strong attention to detail and quality orientation Good communication and interpersonal skills Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint) Ability to work in a structured, fast-paced manufacturing environment Openness to feedback and continuous development Strong written and verbal English communication skills Important Reminders: We provide free medical examination.
