THE OPPORTUNITY

Hifab Construction are looking for an engineer to join our young team.

  • Permanent role
  • Location: Wetherill Park & Project location

Young growing business. 2 years in operation. Serving clients ranging from residential sector all the way through to infrastructure. Current client base are tier 2 engineering firms serving TfNSW & Sydney Water.

Responsibilities

You will be expected to undertake the following duties:

  • Review and implement fabrication plans for custom machinery, industrial equipment, piping systems, pressure vessels, steel frames, and related components, ensuring adherence to specifications, quality standards, and project timelines.
  • Prepare and submit accurate cost estimates, including labour, materials, and equipment, and assist in preparing bids and proposals for projects.
  • Ensure high-quality and efficient production, program the fabrication process using computer-aided design (CAD) software and 3D modelling tools.
  • Regularly evaluate machinery, parts, and equipment for compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. Schedule and monitor routine maintenance to keep equipment in optimal working condition and prevent unexpected breakdowns.
  • Setup Hifab project teams prior to pre-construction phase: match Hifab teams/workers to project requirements; Define & streamline roles and responsibilities to efficient estimating, planning/communication for the client’s project.
  • Develop and implement work programs which assesses labour efficiency, workshop production output & welding QA benchmarks. The analysed historical data will guide future estimations/fabrication quotes.
  • Review of workforce hours by assessing Budgeted vs Actual fabrication hours assigned to the project.
  • Co-programming with Fabrication Manager to efficiently assign workforce to ensure Hifab’s availability & scheduling aligns to client deadlines & technical requirements
  • Co-review with Technical Manager (Welding Supervisor/Inspector) on the investment of particqular fabrication euipment to ensure efficient fabrication & ASNZ standards are met.
  • Optimize fabrication process (workshop & site) by developing manufacturing specifications and selecting appropriate materials, welding consumables, fittings and equipment required for project & QA requirements.
  • Project Management: Oversee day-to-day project activities which involves:
  • On-boarding Hifab’s team (welders, fabricators, trade assistants, site supervisor, inspectors) to be compliant to inductions & site safety policies.
  • Re-establishing the build approach & program for Hifab team to ensure that fabrication/installation standards adhere to design requirements set by the client.
  • Co-ordinate with 3 party welding inspection partners to ensure ASNZ fabrication standards are met: Inspection, testing & reporting.
  • Collaborate with Fabrication/Site Manager (Hifab) on illustrating building approach/program adheres to site conditions, engineering principles & client safety policies.
  • Create fabrication program to align with client’s master plan (incorporating build approach, subcontractor engagement, logistics of material, access equipment, generators & welding equipment).
  • Create and enforce quality checklist, testing forms and maintenance procedure for the installed fabricated items and ensure compliance with Australian welding standards, including AS 1796 (Certificates of Competency in Welding), AS/NZS 1554 (Welding of Structural Steel), AS 1665 – 2004 (Welding of Aluminium structures), AS4041 – 2006 (Pressure piping), AS 3990 – 1993 (Mechanical equipment – steelwork) and AS 4024: Safety of Machinery to maintain safety and quality in welding operations.
  • Quality Management: Technical Compliance - Conduct site inspections to verify workmanship and adherence to safety regulations and provide recommendations for improving fabrication processes and systems.
  • Review & audit equipment to ensure compliance with; test-tag electrical (site machinery); mechanical maintenance of site generators; hired access equipment adhere to manufacturer’s maintenance schedule

To competently undertake the above tasks, we require a person who has at least a relevant Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with 1 year relevant experience. More important are the range of skills that will see this role succeed are:

  • Technical skills: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.).
  • Fabrication knowledge: Knowledge of materials, welding, and fabrication processes.
  • Industry Standards: Familiarity with industry standards (e.g. ASME/ANSI/AS Standards).
  • Problem-solving skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Communication skills: Clear communication skills to collaborate with team members and report any issues or concerns.
  • Time Management/Adaptability: Effective time management skills to meet project deadlines and production schedules. The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
