  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Ethylene Three (E3) Technical Team at our Joffre Site in Central Alberta, near Red Deer. Reporting to the E3 Technical Team Leader, you will lead/support all aspects of Static Equipment engineering primarily focusing on long-term improvement and reliability, seconded by leading/supporting the mechanical engineering team within the asset as it relates to maintenance, reliability in design, unit expense and capital projects, turnaround scope and incident investigations for major failures requiring root cause analysis. You will be an innovative, motivated, collaborative, and proactive team member that provides quality engineering solutions to support NOVA’s vision.

You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Demonstrate a high level of commitment to Responsible Care activities.
  • Develop and maintain equipment reliability strategies within the static mechanical discipline.
  • Perform the role of Investigative Lead for recurring and high complexity failures.
  • Develop and implement critical spare strategies.
  • Identify, define and drive solutions to known risks and threats following internal processes.
  • Deliver project management and design for reliability driven unit expense projects, that include equipment strategy changes, SAP equipment updates related to BOM’s, MID’s and tagging.
  • Perform the role of Discipline Technical Lead for unit turnarounds.
  • Input into Capital Projects regarding reliability of static mechanical equipment, that includes idea entry, business case development, reliability study support, and ongoing support related to criticality and equipment strategy development.
  • Perform reliability analysis for static equipment such as Criticality, RCFA, FMEA, Crow–AMSAA plots, Weibull Analysis, etc.
  • Oversee unit designer and secondees for project design.
  • Support the interpretation and deviation review for Corporate Engineering Standards.
  • Provide professional authentication to professional work products within the discipline.
