Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a keen and passionate engineer to join our high-performing team at our QCoal Northern Hub; situated a mere 1 hour drive from Bowen and the beautiful Whitsundays. The position offers either FIFO from Brisbane or DIDO from Townsville or Mackay, all-the-while working in a positive workplace and getting the opportunity to develop themselves in the mining engineering space.
We are seeking an open cut mining engineer who has a strong understanding of open cut mining, is confident using Vulcan, and is interested in developing skills in scheduling using Spry. However, we remain open to applicants with a couple of years’ of experience who show eagerness and potential. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be required to work collaboratively in the delivery of high-quality mine plans and designs for our open-cut coal mine site.

Key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Delivery of short-term planning outputs:
  • Dig and dump designs
  • Data analysis
  • Dozer push designs
  • Rehab designs
  • Operational plans
  • Depending on your skills set: Utilising/developing skills in Spry for the execution of a short-term and mid-term mine plan
  • Communicating designs/plans effectively with the production team
  • Delivery of the weekly planning pack
  • Compliance to site Safety Health and Environmental standards
  • Provide information to relevant staff to assist in reporting requirements
  • Assisting the drill and blast engineer where required
  • Assessing opportunities for improvements in operational efficiency
  • Utilise your skills to continually aim for innovative solutions

    About you

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Mining or Civil Engineering (or equivalent)

  • Minimum 2 years’ operational mining engineering experience (open cut preferred)
  • Experience with MS Office, Vulcan, XPAC or SPRY, Deswik, 3D Dig or similar software
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small team environment and engage with our production department
  • Keen, passionate and positive attitude
  • A commitment to the best practice of health and safety at all times
  • Excellent behavioural, time management, analytical, verbal and written communication skills
