SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

A municipal engineer is responsible for planning, designing, and administering municipal services. This position oversees construction projects, manages grant and loan programs, handles contracts, and provides engineering expertise for water supply, sewerage, roads, and public facilities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Engineer I

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • 0-2 years’ experience in site, civil, or municipal engineering.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and design tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is preferred

Engineer II

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in site, civil, or municipal engineering.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and design tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Proficient communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Has experience exercising limited judgement in work details and the application of standard methods.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Successfully passed the EIT; obtains a certification.

Engineer III

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • 3-6 years’ experience in site, civil, or municipal engineering.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and design tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Has experience collaboratively using judgement to determine adaption methods for non-routine aspects of assignments.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Eligible or in the process of obtaining a PE.

Engineer IV

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in site, civil, or municipal engineering.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and design tools (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Has experience balancing the work of multiple projects of moderate size and/or portions of major projects.
  • Holds a PE license.
Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Design tasks shall include:
  • Grading
  • Stormwater management
  • Erosion and sedimentation control
  • Storm sewer
  • Sanitary sewer
  • Review subdivision and land development plans to ensure compliance with municipal ordinances.
  • Prepare technical specifications and bidding documents.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates.
  • Assist in the preparation of Stormwater Management Report, Erosion & Sedimentation Control Reports, and Hydraulic and Hydrology Studies.
  • Perform construction observations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including environmental professionals, construction teams, and surveyors.
  • Consults with and provides guidance to project stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering requirements for construction of various designs, modifications, and structural repairs.
