SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Competence in engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to compile, interpret, and communicate technical data.
  • Proficiency in Management Operating Systems and in-house IT systems.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, CMMS, and ACAD.
  • Promote and enforce safety practices, including Permit to Work systems and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with PUWER and authorised task execution.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • NVQ Level 3 or above in Engineering.
  • Recognised formal apprenticeship with a multi-skill focus.
  • Electrical and mechanical qualifications.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • PUWER knowledge.
  • Experience with Permit to Work systems and contractor control.
  • PLC knowledge.
  • Strong computer literacy.

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

To lead and manage engineering operations within the factory, ensuring optimal performance, minimal downtime, and continuous improvement. The role requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving and team development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Resolve faults and problems efficiently to minimise downtime.
  • Anticipate and identify issues, using available resources to implement effective solutions.
  • Manage and develop staff performance to meet operational goals.
  • Gain working knowledge of all factory engineering areas.
  • Understand and respond to internal customer requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and maintenance intervals.
  • Apply lean management techniques (e.g., 5S, SMED, TPM, CI).
  • Ensure compliance with QA procedures, standards, CCPs, HACCPs, and customer specifications.
  • Follow problems through to resolution and share learnings.
  • Make balanced decisions to minimise factory disruption and act with urgency.
  • Adhere to company standards, legal requirements, and core procedures.
  • Apply people management practices with fairness, dignity, and respect.
  • Support learning and development within the team.
  • Coach individuals to achieve high performance.
  • Understand and contribute to achieving relevant KPIs.
  • Recommend performance improvements and manage waste streams.
  • Promote environmental awareness and reduction of impacts.
