Position summary: The Product Development Engineer supports various phases of projects ranging from concept generation and initial design to final delivery hardware and volume production. The types of projects vary from modifications of existing designs to “blank sheet of paper” development programs and advanced performance testing. The Space Systems group focuses on developing structures, thermal control components, and systems that operate outside of Earth’s atmosphere – this drives the need for a robust design where no detail is too small! At any given time, the Product Development Engineer is responsible for the success of multiple projects, providing the opportunity to work on all aspects of the product development cycle. Candidates that have a strong technical background with hands-on experience fabricating prototype hardware excel at this position. Responsibilities Include: All aspects of initial product design including: Innovative concept generation Excel or hand calculation analytical analysis 3-D CAD modeling (Solidworks) CFD/FEA analysis 2-D Drawing creation Design Review Documentation Generation Compliance Matrix & FMEA generation, review, and management Fabrication procedures and work instruction development Working cohesively with a diverse group of engineers and technicians Managing program schedules and budget Frequent customer communication & presentations Support of B&P and Marketing activities Requirements Requirements Our work environment demands a candidate with the ability to take on multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in using commercial CAD (Solidworks), FEA (Solidworks) and CFD software (Autodesk Simulation, Fluent, Comsol) Experience with Thermal Desktop and/or NASTRAN is a plus Hands-on experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and prototype hardware fabrication and testing desired Good verbal and written skills.
