What You’ll Do Hartzell Propeller LLC seeks a CAD Drafter to support the Engineering Department in creating new, and making changes to, 3D models and 2D drawings. The Drafter assists in managing the changes to engineering records through the review and checking workflow processes. The position is on-site and in an office environment that includes grouped but semi-private cubicles, 3D capable workstations with multiple monitors, and desks that can accommodate stand/sit configuration if desirable. The Drafter will work adjacent to Engineers for multiple product lines, and in close proximity to Quality Technicians, Machinists and Programmers. The Drafter is expected to attend weekly team meetings and monthly one-on-one meetings with your manager. Key Deliverables Include: 1) Generate 3D models and 2D dimensional drawings for components or assemblies based on measurements taken from components, sketches, or redlined 2D drawings. Use SolidWorks for 3D design, AutoCAD for some technical vector drawings, or Raster Design (Autodesk product) to modify scanned board drawings to support legacy product lines. 2) Create/modify 3D models that accurately represent parts including all geometric dimensional data, tolerances, datums, and material properties. 3) Create/modify 2D drawing details such as bills of material (BOM), revisions blocks, notes, charts, line styles, drawing layers, part orientations, projected views, exploded views, sectioned and detail views, dimensions, and tolerances. 4) Process change orders to release/modify designs using the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software. Tasks are categorized and prioritized by project to meet project deadlines. Tasks and time tracked and outputs measured against departmental goals. 5) 3D Print Engineering models using one of our multiple in house filament 3D printers for development, testing and fit up purposes Requirements First Year Success Factors: 1) Proficient with current Engineering change management processes in our PLM system. 2) Competent in drafting standards and modeling best practices to efficiently create/modify designs with minimal input from mentor and minimal errors or rework. 3) Familiar with product lines and knowledgeable in drafting standards to check models and drawings completed by other Drafters. 4) Able to create propeller assembly models with over 500 actuating components. 5) Able to use 3D printer without direction and perform minor maintenance. Required Education and Experience High school diploma or GED and a technical degree in Drafting and Design Technology, college prep mechanical engineering coursework or equivalent work experience. Required Technical Competencies 1) Experience with 2D & 3D CAD software, including proficiency in SolidWorks 2025 Mechanical and AutoCAD 2014 or later. 2) Experience with ASME Y14.5 and Global Engineering Standards. 3) Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat. 4) Experience with various forms of hard gauging such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, etc. 5) Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 6) Ability to work with mathematical concepts and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. What’s Preferred 1) SolidWorks Certification CSWA or CSWP. 2) Experience with aviation related products. 3) Experience working in an Engineering/Manufacturing environment. 4) A good understanding of mechanical structures and manufacturing processes.
