Description Job Overview The Mechanic is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, including HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems. May work independently or as part of a team, and must be able to communicate effectively with other building maintenance staff, building managers, and contractors. Requirements Key Responsibilities Inspecting and maintaining HVAC systems to ensure they are functioning properly and efficiently. Diagnosing and repairing problems with HVAC systems, such as faulty thermostats, motors, and compressors. Performing routine maintenance tasks, such as cleaning filters, checking fluid levels, and lubricating moving parts. Repairing and maintaining plumbing systems, including pipes, valves, and fixtures. Troubleshooting electrical systems, including wiring, circuits, and motors. Installing and repairing lighting systems and electrical equipment. Responding to emergency situations, such as power outages, plumbing leaks, and HVAC system failures. Maintaining records of maintenance and repair work performed. Qualifications Building mechanics must be skilled in the use of hand and power tools, and have a strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems. Must be able to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints. High school diploma or equivalent. Optional Schooling: Trade School HVAC OR Electrical Certification: 5-12, Citywide Sprinkler System 5-13, Citywide Standpipe System A-35, Air Compressor F60, Fire Guard for Torch Operations G60 Torch Use Flammable Gas Work Environment Work is performed in a variety of settings. Must be able to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in all types of weather conditions. Must also be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
